Immediate clamping of the umbilical cord is standard practice in most delivery rooms and has been proven safe to both mom and infant. The ideal time for cord clamping has not been established but recommendations have been given, and a decision should be made between the patient and her physician, especially when wanting to bank the baby's cord blood.
